Cuba

Cuba is a wonderful country with inspiring people.

I am Spaniard so I could talk with everyone and listen to everything was said and at times I felt sad because you can sense the fear in their tones and hear it in the way they talk.

We drove across Cuba from La Habana to Baradero and back, and of course with the car always full of people!

Before travelling I do my homework, I read all the books I can put my hands on, forums, ask around to those who have already been there..so I don’t miss a thing wherever I am. So I knew transport is a problem to most Cuban people and decided “to do my bit” -as I found out they say in English – and fill the car with people. And what a nice and clever idea turned out to be! They showed us the road when there were no signs and we learned a lot about the culture, the country and their spirit.

Cuba is definitely worth a visit and if you happen yo rent a car, don’t be afraid and help them out. You’ll see how happy some women are to realize that they won’t spend the night on the road waiting for a lorry to pass by.

Indonesia

Indonesia was the other destination on my honeymoon.

We usually don’t spend much on accommodation but since it was our romantic trip and we felt that somehow it had to be memorable, we decided to allocate part of the budget for the accommodation in Bali.

It turned out to be a great investment, as we had our own villa and a driver to take us around and show us the non-tourist markets for a couple of days. We felt us blessed with Mr. Butt. *:o)

Here are some of the shots I took with what turned out to be my last compact camera (excluding the underwater shoots of course!).

After this trip it began a new era for me: the reflex camera.

Enjoy!

El Camino

Monday 10. September 9am. I receive a call from a friend who asks me..do you have any plans for Sunday 23th? Could you do me a favour?

As I learned from my mother, when a friend asks you for something, you just say yes, instantly, automatically. And then, right after, you start the machinery in your head to make it possible. And if this favour involves travelling, I do not even blink! So I smiled and said: of course!

I had 12 days to find the right equipment which I must tell you, it’s quite a mission in Norway for such a tiny person as I am. But I run all over Oslo and asked friends and family for help and there I was. Guide for a group of 8. All with different reasons but with the same purpose and goal: to walk around 250km in 10 days trough the north of Spain. El Camino.

I couldn’t bring my reflex camera as I had to cut off all extra weight but I’ve always thought that when the landscape and surroundings are beautiful you for sure get good pictures.

I hope they bring you the peace and joy I felt during the Camino and that they make you write down “Camino” on your wishing list of destinations to go to. As it certainly is worth the effort and sweat!

¡Buen Camino!

Dubai

Dubai was the one of the destinations of our honeymoon.

We had a stop-over of almost 24 hours wich we squeezed, as usual, to get the most out of it.

I can farely say that it didn’t turn out to be one of my favorite destinations. Not that there is nothing to see or that it’s not beautiful, but it’s maybe not the kind of place that marks me. And it absolutely didn’t help that it was Ramadan although I learned a lot from that. It was very interesting to see how the people adapted to not eat during the day and then have a huge picnic out on the streets when the sun set.

The highlight was the dinner at the top floor restaurant on Burj Al Arab…wow!!! Impressive building, astonishing views, delicious food and colourful and tasteful drinks.

Some shots to get the feeling of it? There you go!

Malaysia

Our Malaysia experience was way much better than expected!

Of course we read that it’s a nice country with service-minded people and so on, but the beaches we found and mostly the people we met, made sure we had a wide and sincere smile on our faces the whole trip.

This is actually the first trip overseas with my 3-year old son! He enjoyed it so much.. the waitresses would take him inside the kitchens and entertain him and come back now and then to check everything was ok..hihi! His cute charming smile may have helped to that..this, and his blond hair and light blue eyes.. A sensation in Asia must say!

Here are some shots that I hope give you a feeling of what we experienced.

Iceland

Iceland…

what an exotic country..different from all you know.

Some say that you feel like you’re on the moon, and I must say they are quite right. Driving through the country surely gives you that feeling.

And at times it’s plainly astonishing. Beautiful nature and you feel so close to it.. love it!

Enjoy the shots!
